Best Universities Near Nunavut Territory

Currently, there are no universities in Nunavut. However, the province boasts of only one college, the only post-secondary institution in the province, Nunavut Article College. 

The college offers a small number of degrees in conjunction with Dalhousie University for Nunavut Nursing Program. It also partners with the University of Regina for Nunavut Teacher Education. 

It recently partnered with the University of Prince Edward Island for the Master of Education in Leadership and Learning program and the Akitsiraq Law Program. 

In addition, residents of the Northern part of Canada have access to receive training in both fundamental academic and vocational studies. However, due to the distance and the nature of roads between communities, the college tries to bring its programs to various communities. 

Universities in Nunavut Education System

Even though there are currently no universities in Nunavut, the province is making plans to build some universities in the province. The Curriculum Development division is responsible for bringing out the curriculum used in Nunavut. And whatever curriculum they set will be used whenever the first University of Nunavut is established.

Therefore, the Curriculum Development division has the following responsibilities: development, adoption/adaptation, and implementation of all curricula, Foundation documents, teaching resources, and student learning materials. In other words, it deals with everything associated with programs of study for all grades in Nunavut. That means from Kindergarten to grade 12.

The unit ensures that all materials used in Nunavut schools reflect education best practices, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and the philosophical approaches of the Department of Education.

How To Apply To Canadian Universities As an International Student

International students who want to study in Canada must follow the steps below to apply:

 Choose a Program: The first step to take if you want to study in Canada is to choose a program. This is because your choice of the program determines the other processes; it also determines the documents you need. 

 Apply to the School: Secondly, after deciding on the program of your choice, you will apply to your preferred school. First, you must check if your preferred institution is a designated learning institute in Canada. Also, you must check to know if they offer the program.  

Apply for a Study Permit: Thirdly, apply for a Canada study permit. If your admission has been granted, you can take it to the immigration office in your country. This will make the whole process easier.

  • Secondly, you can send your documents in hard copies via mail. 
  • Once your permit has been approved, you can prepare to come to Canada. Do not expect to get your study permit before you arrive in Canada. 

You will only get it once you arrive in Canada. Hence, you get your study permit at the point of entry. In addition, you will get a port of entry introduction letter to show that your permit has been approved. You must demonstrate this letter to the immigration officer when you arrive in Canada.

However, once you arrive in Canada, the officer at the point of entry will collect the letter and replace it with your study permit. If your permit is not yet ready, they will give you an appointment at their office.
